Walking the Jesus Way

What does it mean to walk the Jesus way?

In John 14, Jesus is speaking to His disciples—anxious, confused, and fearful as they face His coming departure. When Thomas asks how they can know the way, Jesus gives one of the clearest declarations of who He is: “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Jesus didn’t simply come to show us a better way to live. He IS the Way. And you cannot walk the Jesus way without walking WITH Jesus—but when you walk with Jesus, you increasingly begin to walk LIKE Him.

In this message, we’ll discover what it looks like to follow Jesus in everyday life and allow His Spirit to shape the way we live.

In this message you’ll discover:

• Why following Jesus begins with walking WITH Jesus
• Why Christianity is about relationship with Christ, not simply rules or behavior
• How abiding in Christ produces a life that increasingly looks like His
• What it means to live the way of obedience and surrender
• How humility and servanthood reflect the heart of Jesus
• Why prayer was central to the life and ministry of Jesus
• How to stay focused on the mission of Jesus and see people as opportunities rather than interruptions
• Why following Jesus was never intended to be private, but lived out in community
• What it means to live open-handed with our time, resources, abilities, plans, and future
• How Jesus continues His work in the world through His Spirit-empowered people

Key Scripture:
📖 John 14:1–14

The Seven Ways of Jesus:
• The way of obedience
• The way of humility
• The way of the servant
• The way of prayer
• The way of the mission
• The way of community
• The way of the open hand

Big Idea:
You cannot walk the Jesus way without walking WITH Jesus, but when you walk with Jesus you increasingly begin to walk LIKE Him!

Application:
• Walk with Jesus through a growing relationship with Him.
• Abide in Christ and depend on Him daily.
• Choose obedience because you love Jesus.
• Humble yourself and look for ways to serve others.
• Develop a consistent rhythm of prayer.
• Stay focused on the mission and look for people who are close to you but far from God.
• Live in genuine community and remember that the way of Jesus is deeply personal, but never intended to be private.
• Live open-handed, surrendering your time, resources, abilities, plans, future, and life to Jesus.

Jesus is still walking through this world—and He works through His people.

He walks into hurting places through you.
He walks toward lost people through you.
He serves through you.
He gives through you.
He loves through you.

So where do we start? Not by trying harder or making seven new resolutions. We start where Jesus told those troubled disciples to start: “Believe in me.”

Walk WITH Jesus. And as you walk with Jesus, His Spirit will increasingly make you LIKE Jesus.
